Djokovic Delivers Caution to Jannik Sinner: Suspension Will Follow Him Like a "Cloud"

The tennis star has warned Jannik Sinner that his three-month doping suspension will linger over his career like a "cloud" – and raised doubts about the timing of the penalty last year.

The Ban Explained

The Italian player served a three-month prohibition in early 2025 after the global anti-doping body accepted his explanation that a prohibited performance-enhancing substance, clostebol, had been ingested unintentionally.

"That cloud will follow him just as the Covid controversy will follow me, for the rest of his, or my career," the champion remarked in a discussion on Piers Morgan: Uncensored.

"It's just something that, it was so major, and after such events, over time it will fade, but I don't think it will disappear. There will inevitably exist a certain group of people that will always try to bring that forward."

Djokovic's Perspective

Djokovic expressed belief that Sinner, a regular practice partner, "had no intentional involvement", but he proceeded to question how the player arranged to serve his time without sitting out any major tournaments.

"The absence of openness, the inconsistency, the convenient timing of the suspension occurring between major events, so he avoids skipping important competitions – it's just it was very, very odd," he further commented.

Broader Tennis Community Response

"I am dissatisfied with how the situation was managed and you could hear so many other players, both male and female, who had comparable circumstances coming out in the media and complaining that it was a preferable treatment."
